VCC Hosts Veterans & Wellness Education Fair in Santa Ana, CA
by Veterans Cannabis Coalition
We’d like to thank everyone who participated and attended Sunday’s Veterans & Wellness Education Fair at Kannabis Works in Santa Ana, California! It was an excellent example of something we would like to see more of: bringing together cannabis companies, community organizations, and supportive businesses who understand that by helping others we help ourselves.
The cannabis community is still in its relative youth. As patients and consumers and industry work to figure out how we will relate to one another, and the place of government, we are left with a choice.
We can choose, across all the roles we may play, whether we advocate for the good of the people—meaning we can ensure equal access, affordability, and quality cannabis products to every person, everywhere in the county, but most especially to those in need of medicinal cannabis—or we stay silent.
To borrow a quote from the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., “We are now faced with the fact that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there "is" such a thing as being too late. This is no time for apathy or complacency. This is a time for vigorous and positive action.”
Cannabis access is, at its core, about the human right to self-care. Cannabis prohibition is killing Americans, including veterans, every day by preventing research into potentially life-saving medicines. Think about the tens of millions of lives across eight decades, especially in African American and Latinx communities in this country, who have been damaged or destroyed over a beneficial plant. Every day that we do not have true and complete reformation and restoration, is another day that we are all negatively impacted by prohibition.
Special thanks to everyone who came out and participated!
